Iran executes three men convicted over January 2026 protests

Iran on Sunday executed three men convicted of taking part in armed unrest during protests in January 2026 and carrying out operations for Israel and the United States, state media reported.

On Saturday, citing judiciary's Mizan Online website, AFP reported the execution of an Iranian, Mohammad Aref Shahbakhsh, an "operative linked to the terrorist group Jaish al-Zolm (al-Adl)".

Jaish al-Adl is an outlawed militant group in Sistan-Baluchistan province, which has long seen clashes between security forces and armed groups, including Sunni militants and members of the ethnic Baloch minority.

Iran accuses arch-enemies the United States and Israel of supporting armed groups there.
